The aims and objective of the MFC Adoption Agency (Extract from the Statement of Purpose)
The objective of the MFC Adoption is: To provide efficient and high quality adoption and adoption support services to inquirers, applicants, prospective adopters, approved adopters and adoptive families.
The service aims to:
- Recruit, prepare, assess and approve permanent families for children who cannot live with their birth families and for whom a decision has been made that they should be placed for adoption.
- Optimise the opportunity and choice in permanent family placements particularly in respect of race and culture.
- Establish, promote and protect a leading level of standard in all processes and practices associated with the services offered.
- Positively seek to develop services that provide for all sections of the community.
- Recruit, assess and prepare adopters in a fair and open way, providing clear information about the criteria for acceptance as prospective adopters, the preparation and adoption process, the needs of children requiring adoption and the support services available to adoptive parents.
- Assist in the assessment of the need for support and in the provision of a range of post-adoption support services for children and their adoptive parents, including the management of post-adoption contact, counselling, annual reviews and ongoing support.
- Provide a confidential counselling service to adult adopted people who are interested in obtaining information about their birth history.
- Provide a preparation, assessment and approval service for applicants and support for approved inter-country adopters.
